- Contract: read it in full and check its duration, withdrawal terms, deposit, rent, and conditions for returning the security deposit.
- Security deposit: clarify the amount, reason, and return method. Avoid advance payments before verifying the accommodation and landlord.
- Included expenses: check whether utilities, internet, condominium fees, heating, cleaning, and other costs are included in the price.
- Landlord's identity: ask for identification and verify that the person renting the property is actually entitled to make it available.
- Accommodation: visit the home before paying. If you are abroad, ask for at least a live video call and have them show you the rooms.
- Listing: check the address, photos, price, and description. Look for inconsistencies and compare the offer with similar properties in the same area.
- Suspiciously low price: rent far below the average may be a sign of a scam.
- Pressure to pay: be wary of anyone who rushes you, says there are “other interested people,” or asks for money before showing you the home.
- Payment method: always prefer traceable methods and keep receipts and communications.
- Documentation: keep the listing, contract, receipts, emails, messages, and any documents connected with the rental.
